Arrive at Blantyre Chileka Airport. After processing your visa, you will meet your Orion Malawi guide for the next 10 days at arrivals.
After breakfast in your boutique hotel, transfe south of Blantyre to meet a Chikwawa Pottery group. Find out how the communities source and utilise clay to meet their everyday needs. If you're feeling creative, join in and decorate some pots.
In the afternoon, check in to your hotel in the game reserve and enjoy lunch in the wild.
Enjoy your first game drive in Malawi. How many animals can you spot?
Rise early in time for a walking Safari before breakfast. Drift along the Shire River on a morning Boat Safari followed by lunch.
In the afternoon there is another chance to see more of your favourites with an afternoon game drive.
Transfer to Dedza in the central region and check in to the pottery lodge. After lunch enjoy a tour of the pottery factory.
Hike to the Chongoni Rock Art sites created by the Chewa in the late Iron Age. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the richest concentration of rock art in Central Africa.
Transfer to Senga Bay for your first glimpse of Lake Malawi. Spend the morning at the Kungoni Cultural Centre where there will be traditional dances, history and culture talks.
After lunch meet a family of potters keeping the tradition passed from their father alive. Reflect on how pottery is used in different settings by groups with different resources and goals.
Cool off with a sunset cruise on the lake.
In the morning, learn more about the unique species of fish Lake Malawi is famous for: cichlids or "mbuna". Snorkel before lunch at the owner managed lodge and transfer to Mangochi in the afternoon. Arrive in time for sunset and dinner on the beach in this luxury resort.
Spend the morning with a local lakeshore community initiative tackling environmental conservation, literacy, education, financial management and much more. After lunch, rest and take the week in so far. Optional Mangochi tour will be available, otherwise, catch up on that book and just unwind.

After breakfast on the beach, transfer to Liwonde National Park for two days of safari. The park has the big five and if you're lucky you'll spot some big cats. Enjoy game drives and river cruises, and relax in your exclusive luxury tents in the wild.
Liwonde National Park is managed by African Parks and has seen the wildlife population thrive so much they were able to relocate hundreds of elephants to another wildlife reserve in Malawi.
